RYAN STRAKA

Ryan graduated from George Mason University this past summer with a Bachelors Degree in Kinesiology.
He grew up locally in Oakton, VA where he started his swimming career in middle school and went on to specialize
in sprint freestyle and butterfly while swimming for local club swim team Machine Aquatics, high school James Madison
Varsity Swim Team, and eventually onto Marymount University Varsity Swim Team. During this time Ryan was also a swim instructor at Lifetime Fitness where he taught kids how to swim and fine tune their strokes. From workong in his degree Ryan found he had strong passion for understanding biomechanics and how that connected to his favorite sport or swimming. He enjoys discussing the technical aspects of swimming, learning different ways to reduce the chance of injury both in and out of the water, as well as enjoys working with clients to achieve their own peronal swim goals. Whether that’s teaching someone how to swim for the first time & get comfortable with the water, or to help athletes improve their swim technique & performance, Ryan looks forward to continue further developing himself as a swim coach at SwimBox.

JORDAN OVERTON

What went from an instant decision to take a swim lesson as a young kid, to four years of competitive swimming with TBSC (Theresa Banks Swim Club) is what led Jordan down the road for him to become a swim instructor and competitive swim coach for the Aquatics Program at The Lowell School in Washington, DC for the past 7 years. Jordan’s love of the sport and passion to share is what really sets his swim lessons apart. His experience and strong desire to grow over the years brought him to SwimBox as he continues his work to further develop himself as a swim coach for adults learning for the first time to competitive swimmers looking to find that extra edge. In addition to working at SwimBox Jordan is currently a student at Bowie State University working towards his Bachelor’s Degree in Writing.

LISSA LATELLA

SwimBox co-owner Lissa started swimming at the ripe old age of 6 and has been living with pruney fingers ever since. She grew up swimming on local NVSL Swim Team the Dunn Loring Dolphins, local PVS club swim teams Potomac Marlins & Machine Aquatics, and finished out her swimming tenure on the Varsity Swim Team at the University of Mary Washington. After graduating from UMW Lissa took up crossfit and dove back into competitive swimming for another year before hanging up her goggles and settling down with SwimBox for the long haul. Her love of swimming is comparable only to her obsession with food, which she’ll definitely find a way to bring up during her lessons. Lissa likes to say that swimming has given her everything, and she loves to give back to the sport by sharing her knowledge and devotion with her clients looking to fine tune their technique, improve their times & efficiency in the water, learning to swim for the first time, or simply wanting to gain that little extra edge over their competition..
